Isuzu celebrates 1,000,000 D-MAX sales in Thailand

As further proof of the D-MAX’s quality and dependability, Isuzu has announced that the popular diesel pickup recently sold its one-millionth unit in Thailand, considered the pickup capital of the world. Tri Petch Isuzu Sales (TIS), the official distributor of Isuzu vehicles in Thailand, marked the sales milestone with a special event held at the Impact Arena in Muangthong Thani on Nov. 21. This unprecedented sales record in Thailand’s auto industry is a testament to the Isuzu D-MAX’s unparalleled superiority.

The event—called “Isuzu D-MAX: 1,000,000 Units, 1,000,000 Trusts in Thailand”—was attended by 17,500 guests, consisting of Isuzu dealers and customers as well as members of the media. A platinum key was awarded to the one-millionth D-MAX customer by TIS chairman Prayad Boonsoong, Isuzu Motors Limited chairman Yoshinori Ida and TIS president Hiroshi Nakagawa.

“One million units is incredible by any standard,” said TIS chairman Prayad Boonsoong. “You can’t sell a single vehicle model to that many customers if your product is anything but excellent and class-leading. Sales success is the purest affirmation of a vehicle’s quality, beating any other type of award.”

IML chairman Yoshinori Ida further commented: “Since the world premiere of the D-MAX in Thailand in mid-2002, its popularity has remained high, which has led Isuzu to the one and only sales record of one million units for a single vehicle series. And this has been achieved in just a little over seven years.”

To liven up the festivity, TIS organized side activities like Thai boxing and aerobic exercise contests for high school and college students in Bangkok. A fun park was also provided for the kids, who tagged along as their parents shopped for specially discounted consumer goods. The adults also took advantage of a booking area for vehicles, where they made on-the-spot reservations for brand-new Isuzu models. Famous Thai celebrities, meanwhile, were in attendance to lend more prestige to the occasion.

The event also served as the homecoming ceremony for the special caravan group that participated in “The Adventure…The Mission to Conquer the World” reality show on TV. This extraordinary caravan featured eight top entertainment stars driving the D-MAX, putting the pickup to the test in a grueling 15,000-kilometer trip across four countries and one autonomous region before reaching the Mt. Everest Base Camp. The entire journey took an entire month to complete.

“We are very proud of this latest achievement by the D-MAX,” said Isuzu Philippines Corp. president Keiji Takeda. “It should provide us with more inspiration to push for this superb vehicle in the Philippine market. I believe it is also our responsibility to inform Filipino consumers that such a world-class quality pickup is available in their local market. They deserve the same level of performance and reliability as other pickup owners around the world.”
